Definitions of short sea shipping

There are various ways to look at the activities of the short sea shipping sector:
  1. From a historical perspective at which the geographic destination and ships’ measures are the main parameters.
  2. From the official definition of the European Union, which rediscovered short sea shipping as an environmental mode of transport, and as a means to reduce traffic jams on European motorways, mid nineties.
  3. From the perspective of intermodal characteristics of short sea transport
